The Montreal Canadiens had an incredible 2024/25 campaign, and despite all the odds set against them early in the season, they overcame and now find themselves in the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the heavyweight Washington Capitals.
They got there largely thanks to their young core, who saw an incredible rookie campaign from Calder Trophy favourite Lane Hutson, who is shaping up to be a star of the future in the NHL.
Unfortunately, his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut didn’t go as well as he would have hoped, as he was a -1 on the night despite flashing his immense skill and tallying two assists.
Regardless, not many fans would have been eager to blame him for the 3-2 overtime defeat to the Capitals, but after the game, the 21-year old took responsibility for some lapses in judgement late in the game.

This is certainly a sign of maturity from the young blue liner, and while it definitely wasn’t his fault, the fact that he was owning up to his mistakes shows just how special he’ll be in the NHL.
With two points in his post-season debut, he certainly continues to impress every time he takes the ice, and if the Canadiens can continue building this young core, Hutson will be one of many young stars on this Montreal squad.
