With the Toronto Maple Leafs about enter Game 5 against the Ottawa Senators, the team is looking to bring in some players from the Toronto Marlies too boost spirits.
On Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Ottawa Senators in Game 4 of their first round series, ultimately guaranteeing a Game 5.
Heading into the match, the Maple Leafs had an opportunity to end the series as they were up 3-0 and had been looking like the better team.
However, the Senators played well and were able to squeak out a win in overtime to make sure the series keeps on going for at least another game.
Toronto Marlies players to join the Maple Leafs
According to reporter Lance Hornby, the Maple Leafs are going to be looking to add some Toronto Marlies players to the roster this week.
Essentially, head coach Craig Berube wants to give some AHL players the opportunity to experience playoff intensity.Berube says he and GM Brad Treliving will discuss the idea of a few eliminated Marlies getting the chance to train alongside the Leafs in coming days to expose them to some NHL playoff atmosphere.
One of the players who is expected to join the team is none other than Alex Steeves, who has broken the record for most goals in Marlies history.
Overall, these players probably won’t get into any games, however, they will get to train with a playoff team which is pretty damn cool.
It just goes to show that the Leafs are always trying to come through with cool experiences for all of their players, regardless of level.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs make good on this promise. With Game 5 going down Tuesday, we could see some Marlies players on the roster come tomorrow.
