Newcastle United have made it crystal clear that Alexander Isak will not be sold this summer.
Newcastle United are yet to open fresh contract negotiations with star striker Alexander Isak.
Speculation surrounded the Swede throughout the course of last season – much to the annoyance of Toon supporters. Isak bagged 27 goals across all competitions to place himself in the conversation of world’s best strikers.
Eyebrows were raised when Newcastle stumped up a club-record fee to sign the striker from Real Sociedad three years ago. However, few are questioning the move now, with Isak’s price tag in excess of £150million.
Liverpool interest in Alexander Isak
While Arsenal had been linked with Isak throughout the season, Liverpool are now the dominant name understood to be keeping tabs on the situation. The interest is genuine – with Arne Slot undergoing a rebuild at Anfield despite winning the Premier League – but a move remains unlikely.
It would take way above the British record transfer fee to even draw Newcastle into a conversation for the 25-year-old. Darren Eales, Eddie Howe and other Toon officials have made it clear they have no intention of selling their star players.
With three years remaining on his current deal, Newcastle are calm, with Isak also happy at St James’ Park. That situation could change, however, 12 months down the line and a lot depends on how the Magpies perform in the upcoming campaign.

As mentioned, Newcastle have Isak and anyone who wants him in their pocket – for now. Another three years left to run places the Magpies in a strong negotiating position.
Preliminary talks were held earlier this year about a lucrative extension but they were paused given Newcastle’s season objectives. Champions League qualification and Carabao Cup success – with Isak scoring in the final – only helped his cause for fresh terms.
The Daily Mail report that a boardroom reshuffle at St James’ Park – which saw Paul Mitchell leave as sporting director – threw a spanner in the works as talks are yet to resume. Darren Eales was keen to remind reporters earlier this year that Newcastle have Isak tied down long-term and the club are not interested in selling their prized assets.

Isak expressed his happiness at Newcastle to Swedish media earlier this year. He said: “There’s not much to say, really. I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times.
“It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I’m not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle.”
