Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews was frustrated after a loss to the Nashville Predators despite a gorgeous goal by Mitch Marner in the first period.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have been phenomenal linemates over the past few years and overall, the fans cannot get enough of them.

By now, these two have a ton of chemistry and they always make sure to come up with new plays that can catch opponents off guard and potentially even lead to goals.

However, after the game, Matthews did not seem to care about Marner’s goal, even though he happily explained what happened on the play.

Instead, the Toronto Maple Leafs captain was dismissive noting that none of this matters because the team ended up losing the game.

«O’Reilly is good in the dot. He’s strong, so I had to draw inside. I just tried to time it quickly and make sure Mitch knew I was trying to get it to him. It ended up working out, but in the end, we lost-so who cares?»

Quite frankly, this is a valid opinion to have of the goal and that is exactly how Auston Matthews should be feeling after the team gave up a 2-0 lead and allowed the Predators to storm back.

It was a bad outing from the team who had an opportunity to take first place in the Atlantic Division, but didn’t.

The Leafs play the Philadelphia Flyers and the San Jose Sharks this week, and the fans are expecting some big wins here.

If they don’t get that done, then they can kiss the Atlantic goodbye.
