FC Barcelona are on course for one of their most successful seasons in some time, and this summer could see the La Liga giants turn to Liverpool for potential signings.

The Catalan side remain one of the biggest clubs in world football even after their recent financial problems and the departure of Lionel Messi, with a number of big-name players choosing to join Barcelona despite the obvious risks.

Under Hansi Flick, though, the Camp Nou side have been in sensational form this season, with the German manager looking at Liverpool as a source for potential signings, with Mohamed Salah linked with Barcelona before this week’s contract update.

And a second Liverpool player has been linked with Barcelona, though this potential transfer looks to be dead in the water before it’s even had time to develop.

Barcelona to scrap plan to sign Luis Diaz this summer

According to Sport, Barcelona will back away from plans to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool this summer, with the La Liga side now viewing the deal as ‘impossible’ due to Saudi Arabian interest in the winger.

As per the report, interest from Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr has driven Liverpool’s asking price for Diaz up to €75m (£65m), a fee that Barcelona cannot hope to match due to their current financial situation, which is unlikely to get better this summer.

With Diaz on the radar for Saudi Arabian clubs according to Fabrizio Romano, there’s a growing chance that the Colombian international could be dup swapping Merseyside for the Middle East if a big enough offer comes in.

And with Liverpool in a position where selling Diaz could end up benefiting the squad, Barcelona dropping their interest could make it easier for a club Al-Ahli or Al-Nassr to sign the former FC Porto star this summer.

Diaz has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season, with the attacker set to enjoy his most productive year yet with the Reds having made the left-wing position under Arne Slot in the attacker his own.

Yet at 28-years-old with a contract that is quickly expiring, this summer will feel like Liverpool’s last chance to sell Diaz for a good fee, and this now feels possible with Saudi Arabian clubs interested in the forward.

Although replacing Diaz will be hard, a new wide-attacker is already on the agenda for Liverpool this summer, and selling the Colombian international for a big fee could go a long way in reinventing the squad for the new season.
