Disaster for the Jets as yet another player has to be helped off the ice just before the playoffs.

It is difficult not to feel a little bad for the Winnipeg Jets who have now seen 2 of their players helped off the ice over the span of a single weekend.

On Saturday, the Jets lost forward Nikolaj Ehlers in a freak accident when he was injured by one of the National Hockey League’s officials on the ice, and now the Jets appear to have lost the services of defenseman Dylan Samberg as well.

On Sunday night, the Jets faced off against the Edmonton Oilers and it would be during the second period of that contest that Samberg would suffer the injury. Samberg was attempting to block a shot from Oilers captain Connor McDavid when it took a sickening bounce off the side of his leg, sending Samberg to the ice in a heap.

The Jets defenseman appeared to be in agony, writhing around on the ice in pain while unable to get up off the ice under his own power. Much like Ehlers a day earlier, Samberg would have to be helped off the ice by several members of his team, unable to put any of his weight on the leg that had just been struck by the puck.

What makes this a big concern for the Jets is that Samberg is not known for being a flopper, quite the opposite in fact. As Jets reporter Murat Ates points out, Samberg has a reputation for being unreasonably tough, having gone on a hunting trip that required walking and climbing while dealing with a broken foot.

An extremely tough series of events for the Jets and at the worst possible time in the season no less.

Update: No surprise here but Dylan Samberg has not returned to the game.
