Liverpool are enjoying a productive summer transfer window and have reportedly joined the race to land Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Reds have already snapped up Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez after winning the Premier League at a canter last season.

Mateta joined Palace on a permanent basis at the start of 2022 after enjoying a loan spell with the Eagles. And he has found his feet in England over the last two seasons as he has bagged 30 goals in 72 Premier League appearances since the start of the 2022/23 campaign. The Reds have already shelled out mega money on their three arrivals this summer, so they may be tempted to agree a swap deal with Palace to get their hands on Mateta in order to save funds. So the London club would find themselves in desperate need of a bit of experience at the back and may ask Liverpool if Andy Robertson could form part of the deal.

Robertson is in danger of losing his starting place at left-back to Kerkez and may be forced to play second fiddle to the ex-Bournemouth player. So the 31-year-old Scotland international may be willing to join a Palace side who appear to be heading places under Oliver Glasner.

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez is another big-name player who is unlikely to be a regular starter at Anfield next season. The centre-back was linked with Newcastle last season and would bolster the Palace backline, whether Guehi stays put or departs.

Gomez is 28 years old now and has plenty to offer at Premier League level, so a move to Selhurst Park could make perfect sense for all parties.

Harvey Elliott

Liverpool could tempt Palace into parting with Mateta by making Harvey Elliott part of the deal. The winger excelled for England at the European Under-21 Championship over the summer and found the back of the net on five occasions.

The 22-year-old looks more than capable of starring in the Premier League if given the opportunity to showcase his talent on a weekly basis. And Palace may be able to give him the platform to shine.

Ben Doak

If Elliott would prefer to stay at Anfield and fight for a regular starting place in the Liverpool side, the Reds could ship Ben Doak to Selhurst Park as part of the deal for Mateta.

Doak, 19, played 24 games in the Championship during a loan spell with Middlesbrough last season and may now back himself to dazzle in the Premier League. But he is unlikely to force himself into Arne Slot’s starting line-up any time soon.
