Sidney Crosby has arguably been the greatest player in the history of Hockey Canada, and after already capturing six gold medals with the team, he’s got the chance for a few more in the near future.
The first opportunity for that would be at the 2025 IIHF World Championships held in Sweden and Denmark to be held in May, and after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a third straight season, it’s another opportunity for him to lead the way for Team Canada.
When asked about whether he’d play or not, 87 revealed that he’ll take some time before deciding whether or not he’ll join the team, so at this point in time, it’s officially a maybe, with the captain clearly considering it.
Most people on the Team Canada roster will be fringe players fighting to retain their spot after the Four Nations or pushing for a spot, so while Crosby has his spot for the Olympics locked down, the opportunity to be a leader and get a close up look at who he’ll be playing with at the Olympics could be key.
At 37-years of age, there is truly no reason beyond being a leader for Crosby to play, as he just went through another gruelling 82 game season of incredible production, but knowing how competitive he is, especially when wearing the Maple Leaf on the front of his jersey, there’s a good chance he’ll be there.
For now though, it’s officially a maybe, and with the squad set to head out in May, he’ll make his mind up soon on whether or not he wants to chase his seventh gold medal representing Team Canada.
