A bold trade proposal has a young AFC team coming away with both Abdul Carter and Shedeur Sanders on day one of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Carter is widely regarded as the best prospect in this year’s draft, whereas Sanders is the consensus No. 2 quarterback prospect behind Miami’s Cam Ward. Whereas Ward is the popular pick to go first overall to the Tennessee Titans, and scouts and analysts are divided on when Sanders should be taken.
It’d be a stunner if Carter was still available after the top three picks (Cleveland No. 2, New York Giants No. 3). But what if the Browns got the best prospect in the class AND the second-best quarterback?
In his latest NFL mock draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein predicts that the Browns will use the No. 2 pick on Abdul Carter. Then to address the need for a QB, Zierlein has them acquiring the No. 24 pick from the Minnesota Vikings to select Shedeur Sanders, with the NFC North club getting the 33rd selection as part of the return:
“If the Browns have their eyes on Shedeur Sanders, they would be wise to trade from the 33rd overall pick into the first round, so they can secure the fifth-year option that would then come with Sanders’ rookie contract. It helps that Minnesota, which currently owns just four selections in this draft, needs more picks.”
The Browns handed superstar defensive end Myles Garrett a $160 million extension last month, but adding another can’t-miss stud like Carter would give Cleveland the league’s best pass rushing tandem.
And if there was a way to move up for Shedeur Sanders? It would be icing on the cake for GM Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski, who likely need a good showing in 2025 to retain their jobs.

The Las Vegas Raiders make sense as a landing spot for Shedeur Sanders if he’s there when they pick at No. 6. A big-market team with an owner like Mark Davis would love to add a player with Sanders’ celebrity status to help sell tickets.
If Sanders is there when they select at No. 9, the New Orleans Saints could consider the Colorado quarterback as well. Don’t sleep on the Pittsburgh Steelers or Los Angeles Rams, either, as both are realistic trade-up options to get a QB.
